If you find a packaged application that you wish to install, it is recommended that. To install a.deb file, simply Right click on the.deb file, and choose Kubuntu. Essentially, apt-get or apt do not understand.deb files, they are designed to primarily handle package names (for example teamviewer, apache2, mariadb etc.) and they retrieve and install.deb archives associated with a package name, from a source specified in the /etc/apt/sources.list file.

As many things as may be wrong with Windows, one of the greatest things about installing programs in Windows is the ability to double-click and let the computer install all by itself. All computer programs - from any third party, etc. - use an .exe installer. Why isn't there a similar standard in Linux/Ubuntu? I know there's a lot of diversity across the board in terms of software, but don't they use the same base? I've been trying to install 3rd party apps on Ubuntu for the last day, and it's frustrating and many times, doesn't work.
